New York City ranked in as the one city that smokes the most weed in the entire world, last year, with 77.44 tons of marijuana reportedly being consumed. Karachi, Pakistan, a coastal city boasting the largest population in the country, came in 2nd place with 41.95 tons of cannabis being ingested.

In 3rd place, residents of Delhi, India smoked 38.26 metric tons of marijuana. Taking the 4th place seat, Californians in Los Angele were responsible for 36.06 tons of the total. The race for fifth place was close between Cairo, Egypt and Mumbai, India. Cairo, a city that is home to 19.5 million people ultimately took took down 32.59 tons to claim the 5th place seat. Mumbai was not far behind, in 6th place, with 32.38 tons being consumed.

The 7th highest-consuming city in the world is London, England with 31.4 tons reported. Coming in 8th place with 24.54 tons is Chicago, Illinois, the third and least-highest ranking of the U.S. cities on the list. Gobbling up 22.87 tons was enough to land Moscow, Russia the 9th place seat. Toronto, Canada claimed the last place on the top 10 list with 22.87 metric tons of marijuana being ingested.

  1. New York: 77.44
  2. Karachi: 41.95
  3. Delhi: 38.26
  4. Los Angeles: 36.06
  5. Cairo: 32.59
  6. Mumbai: 32.38
  7. London: 31.4
  8. Chicago: 24.54
  9. Moscow: 22.87

Considering that New York City boasts the largest population in the U.S., it is no surprise that it would also consume the most marijuana in the country.
