We have all had a smoothie before, right? Honestly, I think the first time I ever had one was in high school. There was this place across town called Zooka Juice. We went there so much, that at one point they called me their “house girl” which I think meant I was there a lot? Anyway, Zooka Juice eventually became Jamba Juice and then I graduated to the unsweetened smoothies of Smoothie King. What is better than Zooka Juice, Jamba Juice and Smoothie King combined?
This Infused Vegan Strawberry Smoothie is, of course.
1 ½ cups strawberries (frozen if preferred)
1 peeled banana (frozen if preferred)
1 cup light coconut milk
½ cup orange juice
½ gram decarboxylated kief or finely ground dry hash
1 – 2 tablespoons of hemp seeds
Fresh or Frozen
Hands down, the very best ingredients for a healthy smoothie are fresh fruits and vegetables. Frozen fruits and veg the come in bags from the grocery have unnecessarily gotten a bad wrap though. It has been rumored and debated that frozen items do not retain all of their nutrients, but in reality, some evidence suggests they only lose a small bit of vitamin c over an extended period of time. So, if frozen produce works better for you, go for it! No judgements here.
There are some serious benefits of having a smoothie for breakfast (or lunch or dinner – or all three). As far as the ingredients of our Vegan Strawberry smoothie goes…
Strawberries are rich in vitamins C and K and are a great way to add some fiber, folic acid, potassium and magnesium to your diet.
Bananas are also high in fiber and include a large percentage of vitamin B6. They are good for your kidneys and great for digestion.
Coconut milk is excellent for your immune system and aids in maintaining healthy skin and hair. Orange juice contains vitamin C, and tastes good.
Kief is what makes this an infused smoothie and will provide relaxation or energy for the body and mind – depending on the strain you choose.
Hemp hearts (or shelled hemp seeds) are outrageously good for your health. They are packed with protein, are good for your heart and boost your immune system.
Taking vitamins is great, but getting those vitamins straight from the source is even better.
Vegan, No Sugar Added
There is no added sugar in this recipe because there are more than enough natural sugars in the strawberries alone. We have also kept to a cruelty free, vegan recipe because it works for everyone, even those with an aversion to dairy.
Decarbing Your Kief
It is not a difficult process, really. Marijuana or kief needs to be decarboxylated (or activated, basically) before consumed in an edible or the effects will be limited to none. Find out how to decarboxylate your kief here in an article for Massroots by Austin Logan.
Place all ingredients into a blender. If you are not using frozen fruit you may add some ice to create some additional texture. Mix until well blended then pour and serve immediately. Quick, easy, healthy, delicious AND infused. Enjoy.
