Smokers who are just getting started will generally commit at least one of these 5 smoking safety infractions! There is a lot of misinformation about these things, so we’re here to clarify what you should avoid in your smoking career.
Smoking Safety Tip #1: Plastic Is Not Your Friend
Most people’s first bongs are made of plastic, often because they are constructed with household items. Although your contraption may work like a charm, smoking out of plastic can only lead to bad taste and nasty hazardous gases being released into your lungs. The gravity bong doesn’t have to be a thing of the past now that you’ve moved on from plastic, considering companies like Grav Labs make glass gravity bongs.
Smoking Safety Tip #2: Neither is Aluminum
Yet another appropriated health risk, aluminum cans and foil should never be used to smoke with. Many cover the top of their apple, pipe, or water bottle with the shapeable metal to use as a bowl piece. Smoking out of soda cans is just as harmful, being that the material wasn’t made to smoke out of. We suggest using an apple with a socket or purchasing glass as a safer alternative.
Smoking Safety Tip #3: Don’t Use Glue to Fix Broken Glass
When a piece breaks, it’s a very sad time in the owner’s life. The first reaction is to mourn the loss, followed by the wonder of how to restore the break back to normal. The short answer is, you’ll never get that piece back to where it once was. This may not satisfy those that are emotionally attached, but it’s important to consider the risk of glue being heated and introduced into your lungs. It’s best to either consult a glass blower about a professional fix or to just count your losses instead of trying to fix a break with glue.
Smoking Safety Tip #4: Don’t Use Visine
It’s common knowledge that being high and red eyes go together like having just eaten at a buffet and being full. This is a problem for many people as it’s not a favorable feature to walk around with, especially when you don’t want to disclose to everyone your recent cannabis use. Visine may seem like the answer, but many eye doctors warn against daily use. The eyedrop solution contains chemicals that constrict your blood vessels, making it seem like your eyes are less red. This chemical can cause more redness overtime which will leave your eyes way worse off than they were prior.
Smoking Safety Tip #5: Don’t Use a Propane Torch to Heat Your Nail
A corner that is often cut in the world of dabbing is the torch situation. Butane can become very expensive especially if you consider yourself an avid hash consumer, and ends up leading people to using the much cheaper alternative; propane. However, propane burns way too hot and therefore ends up oxidizing your nail and belittles its lifespan. Butane may be more expensive short term, but it will make your nail last longer.
