Joseph Edgar Foreman, better known as Afroman, thoroughly explains why he feels that smoking cannabis actually made him smarter in a personal article published in HuffPost Canada.
Afroman is a hip-hop artist from California who is most well known for the Grammy nominated hit single, “Because I Got High,” in 2002. Recently, at the age of 40, he did a more positive remix of that song where he explains some of the benefits he has personally experience from his marijuana use.
Now, he has written a article in hopes that sharing his personal experience may encourage readers to let go of the negative stigmas associated with the plant. In the article, he elaborates further how smoking cannabis helped awaken his educational curiosities as well as encouraged him to deal with his feelings in a positive way while simultaneously enhancing his creativity and motivation.
Here are some of the reasons Afroman says smoking marijuana made him an over-all smarter man:
1. It helped him remain calm, and deal with his hormonal feelings of anger, frustration and anxiety as a young adult in a healthy manner. He explains, “Marijuana gave me a sense of patience and calmed my anger.”
2. He gives cannabis credit for the idea that sparked his music career. He smoked a joint before deciding to sell his CDs in Las Vegas rather than on the streets of South Central LA. This decision changed his life, and encouraged him to work smarter with his business strategies.
3. He found himself watching educational television shows after using cannabis, which encouraged him to “ponder on anything worth pondering on.” This is what he states ended up helping to enhance his creativity in everything from his music to his fashion sense.
4. He summarized with the statement,
“I don’t need marijuana to do these things now (even though I still consume) however when I was young dumb and full of untapped emotion, marijuana was a great mental jumpstart!”
