If you like microdosing — consuming low dose THC — then pay attention to Lucid Mood’s brand new line of four disposable vape pens and sippers. Rather than deliver a psychedelic THC high, Lucid Mood harnesses the power of aromatic compounds called terpenes to elicit specific mood-based experiences.
With Lucid Mood, you can vape yourself into Bliss, Focus, Relaxation, or Energy, and count on a consistent experience every time. For the purpose of this review, we’ll focus on the Bliss Sipper.
The first blissful thing about Lucid Mood? They’re smaller than almost every other pen out there—about the size of a cigarette. Next, the vapor exhaled has a familiar clove-like scent, easily passed off as a flavored tobacco should you be questioned. I was not when I whipped mine out at a cafe in Philly (I took the pen in my carry-on via airplane, another testament to their discretion).
Crafted in Colorado by a team of Boulder-based scientists, each pen comes with a mild one-to-one THC to CBD ratio formulated to ease consumers into a subtle high, which is then guided by the pen’s powerhouse pack of terpenes. The non-psychoactive cannabinoid, CBD, is known to buffer the psychoactive effects of THC, and no matter how many times I puffed, I never felt more than slightly high.
The trick to Lucid Mood is to sip. The shorter the puff, the more concentrated the sweet, clove flavor and the smoother the pull.
Like most intoxicants, effects depend on your surroundings. I tried Bliss to calm me down as I was stressed over a deadline. Bad move—I rely on stress in those situations, and had to work twice as hard to finish. However, sipping on Bliss right after work? It was just as effective as a beer. Bliss-ing before a massage? Yes, oh dear god, yes. Using bliss vapor while banging out monotonous paperwork? I merrily typed along with quite a stupid grin on my face. But the true test? Getting Blissed throughout Thanksgiving dinner. It was the first time I could stomach being in a room with Trump supporters! Could Bliss be what gets us through the next four years? I’ll be keeping mine handy.
At this point in the well-publicized battle to end cannabis prohibition, most people in the United States have at least heard about the health benefits associated with the oldest medicinally used plant in the world, specifically one non-psychoactive cannabinoid called cannabidiol (CBD). While the medicinal use of CBD oil has now been legalized in 13 of the United States including Georgia, Iowa, Kentucky, and Florida, hemp derived CBD products are actually legal in America and can even be shipped to your home.
While the medicinal use of cannabis has been documented in pharmacopeias dating back more than 10,000 years and was even available over the counter in pharmacies throughout the United States until the late 1930s, the use of isolated cannabinoid therapies, like CBD oil, is a relatively new concept. CBD earned national media coverage, including multiple in-depth segments from Dr. Sanjay Gupta on CNN, as the chemical compound in cannabis that can reduce the frequency and severity of seizures in children whose rare epilepsy conditions have otherwise been untreatable. Because CBD is non-psychoactive, it does not produce the euphoric feeling of being high, and therefore the administration to people of all ages, including children and newborn babies, is more accepted.
Like other cannabinoids, hemp derived CBD is medicinally effective because it reacts with the physiological system in the human body, called the endocannabinoid system, that maintains homeostasis by regulating mood, pain, sleep, memory and cell metabolism. Now that people are more aware of why cannabinoids react with their bodies and the potential health benefits, the everyday use of cannabinoid therapies like hemp CBD supplements have become more common.
The FDA has exposed a few bad apples in this market, leaving some consumers weary of online CBD retailers. Thankfully, as the market expands and demand increases, the quality of hemp CBD products being introduced is aligning, and some manufacturers are setting the bar much higher. One such exemplary brand is called Aceso, appropriately named after the Greek goddess of healing.
Aceso stands out from the rest for several reasons. All three of the expertly formulated Aceso products — Wellness, Soothe, and Calm — target the specific and common everyday-needs of people. Many other brands produce just one single product that doesn’t clearly explain what it’s mean to do, so Aceso disrupts the CBD and hemp supplement industry by being clear, concise and specific which allows consumers to be fully aware of what is in the product and how exactly it is intended to affect them.

CBD isn’t the only active ingredient in the Aceso products either, which are all available in both a sprayable tincture and a water-soluble powder (sachet). To reach desired effects, the Wellness, Soothe and Calm collections also contain different ingredients known to work synergistically, thereby enhancing the overall efficacy of each product. For example, Aceso Calm pairs CBD with terpenes like linalool and limonene as well as passionflower and lavender to create a relaxing effect without drowsy side-effects.
The active ingredients in the Aceso Sprays, like the Wellness formula, are quickly absorbed into the bloodstream through the thin membranes of the mouth as well as metabolized by the liver. These Aceso Sprays are unique because instead of being made with glycerin or oil, they are water-based. This allows the active ingredients to be more readily absorbed by the body.

Like the sprays, the Aceso Powder Sachets are also water-soluble, and both can be mixed into your morning smoothie or evening tea. When mixed with water, the powder becomes a great-tasting fizzy beverage. Bernie Canter described the Aceso Calm Sachet as an “Emergen-C with cannabinoids and terpenes.” (Click here to read Canter’s review.)
Aceso is also setting the bar higher with it’s clear dedication to consumer education. While those who are already aware of how chemical compounds, like cannabinoids and terpenes, react with the human body to produce different effects, new consumers can become quickly educated from a single visit the Aceso website. To accompany the plethora of information about cannabinoids, terpenes, and the entourage effect, myaceso.com also provides a detailed outline of the herbalist formula behind each product.

Being so impressed with these cannabinoid and terpene rich supplements and what Aceso is doing as a whole, we reached out to them to learn more. The exclusive interview with Kurt Forstmann, the product manager leading the development of the formulas, is below:
Kurt, what is your background and how did it prepare you to develop an industry-disrupting formulation like the Aceso line of products?
My background is renewable energy and real estate development. While bearing zero semblance to my current field, both fields prepared me for the startup nature of Aceso. There is a lot that must get done in order to bring a new product to market. From research and development, manufacturing, marketing, finance, etc., I am good at rallying diverse teams around a common goal.
What was the inspiration behind the development of the Aceso line of products?
To give people new tools to achieve health and wellness! Most products on the market look the same and are hard to differentiate. Aceso is about bringing innovation to the marketplace with better formulas, such as aqueous cannabinoid delivery in the form of a spray or dissolvable powder to increase bio-availability. We also utilize traditional “herbalist” formulations where cannabinoids are but a small portion of the overall formula. We add essential oils, herbs and terpenes, each having their own unique health benefit, to create synergy. Finally, there is a wide knowledge gap in the consumer market, we aim to be more educational by creating products that create wellness in those dealing with stress or everyday aches and pains.
What about Aceso products make you most excited?
We are committed to exploiting the benefits of terpenes in our formula, and we utilize an herbalist pantry when developing products, not just cannabinoids alone. We’re indication specific, meaning our products target certain health demographics, and we utilize novel formulations to give consumers more than one option for method of delivery.
Which Aceso product is your personal favorite and why?
I love the Calm powder because it makes me feel relaxed after a busy day at work. It’s quicker than meditation or yoga!
I consume cannabis to relax. When I light a bowl, it’s to relieve stress and anxiety, unwind, or lose unwanted thoughts. Sometimes, however, I don’t want to get high: I just want to mellow out. Those are the times when I opt for a CBD (cannabidiol) consumable product because I know the seizure-stopping, inflammation reducing cannabinoid helps me chill without the buzz.
Sometimes it’s difficult to find CBD-rich product options without psychoactive THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), and most of the time I can only find CBD in concentrated forms to dab. When I discovered that there was an “Emergen-C for weed” (that is legal everywhere and doesn’t get you high) in the form of an herbalist, CBD and terpene enriched powder, I got very excited. I had to try it for myself, and I liked it so much that I decided to review it.
Emergen-C, the dissolvable powder you gulp in a glass of water, delivers much needed vitamins to the body and helps to strengthen the immune system. The CBD-version of this phenomenon is called Aceso, and while Aceso doesn’t claim to cure anything, it’s packed with cannabinoids, terpenes, and vitamins and is formulated to work with the body’s endocannabinoid system and receptors.
For the purpose of this review, I sampled the Aceso “Calm” Powder Sachet (Sachet is Latin for sack or bag).
The first aspect of Aceso that caught my eye was its sleek, modern packaging. This is a friendly brand that I want to get to know. The modern font and nature imagery play well together, allowing me to notice just from the packaging that I’m purchasing a natural product.
Each 30 pack comes with a 20 sachets containing a total of 225 milligrams cannabinoids or 7.5 per sachet. The 7.5 milligrams cannabinoids are indicative of all natural Hemp CBD, the property that along with naturally derived terpenes causes the calming effect in its products.
That’s a small dose for someone my size/experience, so I doubled down and consumed two packets of Aceso Calm or 15 mgs of CBD. I poured the powder into a small glass of water (about 8 ounces), watched as it calmly mixed in, and then it was bottoms up! First time consumers should stick to the recommended serving of one sachet.
The first thing I noticed was, unlike Emergen-C, this stuff tastes good! Real good! Soothing lavender flavors (a characteristic of the linalool terpene) hit my mouth almost instantaneously. As I continued to drink the Calm, more of a grapefruit taste (a characteristic of the limonene terpene) came through.
Then, I did what I always do when I consume edible cannabinoids: I waited. Usually, with edibles, this waiting is a long time, sometimes over an hour and up to two hours.
When I started to feel the subtle calming effects of the Aceso Calm Sachet just 30 minutes after I drank it, I was pleasantly surprised. Since it was only noon, I felt slightly concerned that my ability to focus may be hindered. Fortunately, the opposite happened. The Aceso Calm helped me focus during the day as my mind relaxed and my head stopped spinning.
I was not at all high at any point. I was just relaxed and clear headed. Aceso’s herbalist formula of whole plant hemp and natural ingredients clearly worked well together, at least on my psyche.
So later that evening, I decided to double down on the Calm again as I was having trouble sleeping. Like clockwork, 30 minutes after I finished my drink–and 30 minutes into a new novel–the pages began turning a lot more quickly and I stopped thinking about my electric bill.
The best kind of deep sleep gradually hit me like a smooth wave about an hour later, and I woke up feeling fresh to death!
Since then, Aceso has become a fairly regular part of my diet. I haven’t tried the Aceso spray just yet, nor the “Soothe” or “Wellness” formulas–but given the success I found with Calm, I will be looking for both very soon!
