In unusual turn of events, authorities of Jakarta, Indonesia accidentally caused residents of one neighborhood to inhale large amounts of marijuana smoke.
Palmerah police reportedly confiscated 3.3 tons of marijuana in a bust, and they chose fire as the method of destruction.
Anticipating the need for protection from the fumes, police officers were prepared with face masks. Residents, however, were not so prepared because they were not warned of what was about to happen.
One resident reported to the Jakarta Post,
“I got a headache because I wasn’t wearing a mask.”
Other residents commented that the strong and “tangy” smell of the smoke caused feelings of dizziness.
While burning the huge pile of marijuana bricks, authorities reportedly also destroyed more than 2,500 ecstasy pills and 1.8 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine that were found during the same bust.
