Jackie Chan’s Son Gets 6 Months in Jail for Marijuana Charges

The son of famed international movie star, Jackie Chan, has been sentenced to six months in jail after entering a guilty plea for “sheltering others to use drugs.”

In August of 2014 Jaycee Chan was arrested after a raid of his Beijing apartment revealed over 100 grams of marijuana – which in China can carry a maximum three year prison sentence.

Chan’s arrest comes after President Xi Jinping sent a strong message the country’s police in June 2014 to use strong measures to stem the use of drugs.

Since, there have been several high-profile arrests involving drug use. Taiwanese movie star, Kai Ko, who was present at Chan’s apartment during the arrest, tested positive for marijuana and was detained after the raid on Chan’s home. Kai was released after completing a 14 day administrative detention for drug use. After which, the BBC’s Celia Hatton reported,

“No-one is immune from China’s crackdown on illegal drugs.”

In addition to the six months in jail, Jaycee Chan was fined 2,000 yuan or $322 USD.

One ironic thing in this story is that Jackie Chan was named an official “Narcotics Control Ambassador” by the Chinese police in 2009. Maybe for his work in Rush Hour? None less – the famed movie star was quoted as saying he felt ‘ashamed and heartbroken” of his son’s behavior.
