Legendary rapper and iconic cannabis smoking celebrity Snoop Dogg has teamed up with the LivWell Cannabis of Colorado to create a line of Leafs By Snoop branded products. The product line includes strains like Cali Kush, candy edibles like Peach Gummies and strain specific concentrates like Gold Rush Sativa Wax.
The latest gem to drop from the Leafs by Snoop line is the Gold Rush Wax, which lives up to its name with a crisp yellow color and extremely sweet flavor. I picked up a gram of the Gold Rush Wax from the LivWell on Broadway in Denver on Friday April 15, the day it first hit the shelves. After being consumed, the mellow sativa effects slowly started to creep in, leaving me relaxed and smiling yet aware and sociable.
To top off an already desirable product, the packaging is both unique and sleek, creating a sure way to identify this new brand’s work in the future. The presentation is always on point. The white and gold triangular, folded box that the Gold Rush Wax comes in, gives these dabs a royal feeling, and even sparkles when it’s held up to the light (as you can see in the photo below). Spoiler alert: the inside of the white outer surface is splashed with swirling colors and a fun “OOOO WEEEE!!” message.
The Leafs By Snoop Gold Rush Wax was housed in a industry standard clear plastic twist-top container that was, like a Matryoshka nesting doll, inside another white container with a screw-off cap. It was easy to scoop crumbs out for the final dab, which is important for concentrate cannoisseurs like myself.
This Gold Rush wax took on more of a crumbly consistency, which works amazing for anyone that likes to dunk their dabs with their fingers. On a fresh quartz banger, the bright gold pigment began to melt into a clear liquid, and was eventually vaporized at a very low temperature with the help of a carb cap.
Almost immediately after inhalation, the taste of melon with a pinch of a floral underbelly starts to overcome the taste buds. Similar to its therapeutic scent and flavor, the high that’s attained can be described as both sweet and mellow. The difference between the tongue and brain’s impression is that the effects take a little while to roll in on the latter. However, with a couple of hits and a little time, the Gold Rush Sativa Wax from Leafs By Snoop is a favorable and desirable experience.
Remember going to the movies and sneaking in a bag of your favorite candy? Mine was peach rings; every time I entered the convenience store, my mouth would water with anticipation of that delicious peachy flavor. Imagine my surprise when I was able to find the same sweet and tangy peach flavor at my local Livwell Dispensary (1660 Pearl St., Denver) in the form of Leafs By Snoop Peach Gummies.
I’ve been well acquainted with the Leafs By Snoop brand in the past, sampling both strains and edibles worthy of the Doggfather himself. Although LBS is a newcomer to the booming edibles market, it is an emerging and increasingly well-known and trusted brand of cannabis. After all, who knows cannabis better than the iconic Snoop Dogg? ….Lion?
Not only are these gummies sweet (but not too sweet, like other cannabis infused foods), they are chewy, juicy, a bit tart, and best of all: no peach fuzz. They come in an attractive, sleek, and childproofed box that can be stowed away safely and squarely. The high comes on quickly, approximately 30 minutes after ingestion, but doesn’t hit like a train. The effect from these peach gummies is euphoric, energetic and functional, like a cup of coffee first thing in the morning.
I enjoyed my box of Leafs By Snoop Peach Gummies so much that before I knew it, they were all gone. They come 10 in a box with 10mg of active THC per bite-sized piece. That is to say, I didn’t eat all 10 of them in one sitting; one or two will get the job done, but more will not necessarily leave you feeling glued to the couch. Just keep in mind that 5 to 10 mg of THC is considered a single dose, and know your tolerance.

If you have read my Mighty Mint Edible Review, you know I’m a flower snob; but I’m also human, which means I’ll never turn down a free buzz. So naturally, when the powers that be asked if I would review Leafs by Snoop’s line of edibles—predictably named Dogg Treats—I sat, shook their hand, rolled over, played dead, and did everything else they asked of me until they confirmed that “I’m a good boy” and gave me my Treats. Reflecting on the experience, maybe I’m not as human as I originally thought.
After I received the Peanut Butter Gem Dogg Treats, I collected what was left of my tattered dignity and inspected the cuboid-shaped packaging. The first quality that stood out to me is the product’s modern box art, which appears to be a plain, white affair with bold, basic lettering, a stylish Leafs by Snoop logo, and the expected novella of ingredients. I next noticed that two of the packages thinner sides have blue and brown patterning. Simple box art right? Au contraire mon frère. Upon closer inspection, one finds an exquisite paisley-cannabis leaf motif subtly imprinted on the package’s white canvas with transparent gloss. And remember the blue and brown coloring? That is actually a woman’s bikini-clad derriere swimming through a pool because I don’t know why. I was actually kind of confused by this image; then again, I didn’t dislike it either, and I’m no art critic.
After thoroughly scrutinizing the packaging, I attempted to open the package by sliding out a plastic container within the box; the plastic container within, however, would not budge and seemed to be caught on something. I cursed under my breath and eventually pulled the interior container out using all my strength, only to realize I had just bypassed the package’s childproofing with brute strength—no easy task, let me tell you. I really must commend Leafs by Snoop on their child-proofing: subtle enough for a half-sober adult to miss, sturdy enough to fluster the same half-sober adult, and damn near impossible for a child to open—the consumer must press two tabs about three inches apart with one hand while pulling the interior container out with the other hand.
After thoroughly scrutinizing the packaging and then destroying it, I finally got my first glimpse of the edibles within. Five pieces of solid milk chocolate, each molded like a vertically bisected, round cut diamond and each perhaps smaller than half of a golf ball; an overall simple yet appetizing chocolate candy appearance. None of these pieces really smelled of cannabis or hash; instead, the Peanut Butter Gems smelled as expected: chocolaty with just a hint of peanut butter.
Each of the five pieces is listed at 8mg of THC and my maximum tolerance is about 50mg of edible THC, so I opted to try three in one sitting for a grand total of 24mg. When I bit into the first piece, I was greeted with the standard chocolate candy bar texture that Americans have come to expect. The chocolate’s semi-soft texture, however, is accented by the crunchiness of tiny peanut butter flakes imbedded throughout the chocolate; the two textures masterfully play off of each other to create a satisfying mastication experience.
Whereas the Peanut Butter Gem’s texture was immediately satisfying, the flavor took a different, yet ultimately enjoyable, path. The Peanut Butter Gem’s flavor immediately slaps the consumer’s face with a hand full of hash, but then quickly apologizes by enveloping the consumer’s mouth with a rich, almost dark, chocolate flavor accompanied with a hint of peanut butter. As the experience continues, the taste of rich chocolate gives way to bold peanut butter until the balance of flavor has totally shifted in favor of the latter. Aside from the initial shock of hash, which exists for only a brief moment, I am pleased to find that the flavor is exactly what you would expect of a decent chocolate and peanut butter treat.
On this fateful night, I ate three Peanut Butter Gems at 8:23 p.m. and then began binge watching Black Sails. Halfway through episode two, 9:20 p.m., the Peanut Butter Gems began to take effect. I felt the beginnings of a body high as my chest grew heavy and my limbs fell limp. By 10:00 p.m., I was in full mellow mode; I felt both physically and mentally relaxed as a sedentary, chill vibe had gotten the best of me. At the peak of my edible high, I did not feel as though the Peanut Butter Gems forced me into a couchlocked state—I could have moved if I wanted—but the suggestion was strong. I suspect that, had I eaten all five Gems, I would have woken up the next morning in the couch divot my body had formed.
If you like chocolate and peanut butter flavored edibles, Leafs by Snoop’s Peanut Butter Gems is one of the best options I have tried thus far. Aside from the initial hash kick, the flavor is on point, and the effect is substantial. Try a piece or three and go explore your world with a mellow perspective; or eat all five and bury your backside in a comfortable couch. Either way, you are in for a good time.

Leafs by Snoop is an excellent example of the predictable direction in which the U.S. cannabis market is headed. Those famous individuals who have allowed their pervasive cannabis use to bask in the limelight beside them are now cashing in on their cavalier cannabis stance by tying their name to cannabis products. Given the cannabis endorsement trend, who could have possibly been surprised that Snoop Lion (Snoop Dogg to traditionalists; Snoop Diggidy-Dogg to the uninitiated) would find a way to stamp his name on some cannabis? Thus, I present to you Leafs by Snoop, a line of cannabis flower that is the product of a strategic alliance between Colorado’s LivWell and Snoop Dogg—I’m not calling him Snoop Lion anymore; it is an absurd name for a dogg.
On the flip side, as consumers, we are quickly learning that spending your entire life as an avid cannabis consumer is no guarantee of success as a cannabis supplier. New brands also often face growing pains, and Snoop’s cannabis line, Leafs by Snoop, is no exception. The first expert review of at least one Leafs by Snoop strain — Blueberry Dream, Snoop’s version of Blue Dream — was less than positive.
Needing to see it to believe it, I decided to “test” the product myself, but I chose Leafs by Snoop’s Cali Kush for this review.
Cali Kush is a hybrid strain that tends to produce dense, light green flower with minimal leaves and pistils and maximum trichome coverage. Cannasseurs expect Cali Kush to have a fruity, citrus scent with robust coffee and spice notes, indicative of Kush genetics. The flower’s Kush qualities, a spicy robustness for example, should also be very apparent in the flower’s flavor.
I was happy to find that Leafs by Snoop’s Cali Kush exhibited many of the strain’s expected characteristics. The flower is indeed dense, devoid of leaves (leaf’s plural form, Snoop…), and only exhibits small clusters of orange pistils. The flower has a vibrant, light green color that shines through a semi-dense, steady layer of trichomes (also known as kief).
After multiple whiffs, I would describe the flower’s aroma, or terpene profile, as starting with peppery diesel and a hint of pine but finishing with a citrusy dankness. I am not totally sure where the diesel scent comes from, but the rest of the flower’s aroma hits the mark. The flower also tasted like typical Cali Kush in that it initially exhibited an almost piney, tobacco or coffee-like boldness with a subtle sweetness, and then it finished with a sneeze-inducing spiciness that lingered in the back of my nasal cavity.
While it did not knock my socks off, Leafs by Snoops Cali Kush produced a potent and expected effect as far as hybrids go. I felt very awake and aware, and I was able to clearly focus on one thing, albeit only one thing. Contrastingly, the flower also induced a physical weightiness in my chest and head that kept me firmly planted in my couch. I did not feel tired, but I also had no desire to move. Based on these effects, I would say that Leafs by Snoop’s Cali Kush has been released just in time for the winter movie season. Feel like watching a movie? Wanna get high? Snoop’s Cali Kush offers the pleasure you seek while keeping you focused on the reason you paid $13 to get sticky shoes; or, you know, just Netflix™ and chill. This movie season, pass the Cali Kush and stop bogarting the popcorn!
