Mother’s Day is here and nothing goes better with Moms than big beautiful bouquets of fresh flowers. If you haven’t started thinking about what to get the life-bringer in your family yet, the good news is you’ve still got time. This year, instead of a mushy card and half-assed box of chocolates you picked up on your way out of the grocery store, get her something she really wants.
Like a smaller, more pungent floral arrangement called cannabis! If you’re lucky enough to have a mom or wife that enjoys relaxing with Mary Jane at the end of a hectic day full of adult responsibilities, this idea should be a no-brainer. However, I realize that the remaining 92% of us that don’t have mothers or wives that toke, this will backfire horribly.
In either case, we can all celebrate Mother’s Day a little early by enjoying some aromatic strains that smell of flowers and mom’s home cooking. Since they only get one stinkin’ day a year to be appreciated for raising (or marrying) our sorry butts, below are the top picks for the most floral and Mom-worthy strains to help celebrate all that they do.
Floral Strains for Mom on Mother’s Day
This 50/50 hybrid beauty will leave your house smelling of sweet berries, light diesel, and pepper. Load some of this pungent pot into your pipe and pretend that mom is in the kitchen cooking your favorite childhood meal and accidentally dropped a whole nug on the burner and whoopsies! You’d better get in there and help her clean up/inhale that mess, young man!
If your mom ever caught you smoking weed in the basement in your filthy room that she asked you to clean TWICE, I’ll bet she wouldn’t have been so mad had you had some Lavender Jones fired up instead.
No other strain smells more floral and mom-approved than this one. When flame hits her effervescent foliage, Lavender Jones lights up a room with a wondrous lavender aroma that any mother would be sure to love. However, if your mom figures out you didn’t bring her “lavender soap” after all, you’re on your own my friend.
Open a jar of this lime-green spectacle on Mother’s Day and someone is guaranteed to ask: “What kind of flowers are those?” Now- you can either tell them straight-up that you’re about to get baked in Mom’s honor or you can simply reply: “Roses?”
Most OG Kush fans describe its aroma as extremely floral with a hint of rose. After all, what better way to show mom you care than by bringing her “green roses” on her big day, right? It’s a surefire way to being the favorite child once again!
With a name like “Skunkberry”, you can bet your sweet cheeks that this strain is going to dazzle your nostrils. These flowers will make mom think that you stopped off at Orange Julius and had a delectable triple berry Julius made just for her. Boy, won’t she be disappointed!
Regardless of which strain(s) you choose, make sure your matriarch knows how much she means to you and promise to give her a call once in a while, slacker.
Boulder Wellness Center (BWC) is bit tricky to get to but worth all the effort. Heading East on Arapahoe Ave is your only bet. You’ll be facing a left-hand turn across three lanes of traffic if you come in from the West and your blood will boil while you wait to make a move. Coming from the East allows for an easy right turn into a convenient parking lot. Inside the reception area, medical patients are led to the left and recreational shoppers show the door on the right after checking in. If you’re lucky, a sweet canine will greet you at the door.
Whichever door you enter, the result will be the same. Exceptional genetics and masterfully grown connoisseur level cannabis offered only after a proper cure. Too many shops rush their flower to the shelves and neglect to get the finest flavor and smoke out of their bud. Boulder Wellness is not like many shops. There is a new age feel steeped deep in the vibes of traditionalism.
BWC offers several uncommon stains like Stinkbomb, Cheddarhead and Bossanova Haze along with standbys such as Platinum Cookies and White Widow. When I asked Emma, the most customer-experience driven manager-acting-as-a-budtender, to recommend a strain they were known for, she reached for the B-Well Kush without hesitation. It’s their proprietary house-strain and crosses OG Kush x Pure Kush x Bubba Kush. As a private entry to the Adam Dunn Show Invitational this year, it earned a third place trophy proving that not all dispensary bud is created equally.

One of the most colorful dried cannabis flowers I’ve ever seen, B-Well Kush displays dark green hues, vibrant burnt-orange and even a deep purple at the tips of this particular sample. Having the opportunity to peer at a sample of B-Well Kush with a handheld magnifying glass while making my selection at Boulder Wellness Center means leaving with an eighth when you’re only supposed to buy a gram to review. (Why don’t all shops provide classy magnifying glasses for pre-purchase inspection?)
A treat for the olfactory receptors, B-Well Kush has a complex terpene profile reflective of it’s lineage. Spicy, herbal, earthy (myrcene) notes are most noticeable before a nug is broken in half. Once broken up, the pungent, sweet smell of pine (pinene), fuel and even a hint of citrus (limonene) are more evident.
Even smashed into a dugout and smoked out of a one-hitter (or especially, depending on who’s asked), B-Well Kush is the strain that dreams are made of. I’m reminded of Mitch Shenassa words in The Cannabis Aficionado’s Handbook,
“Luxury grand cannabis smoke is velvety on the lungs.”
Fact. The end of many bowls of B-Well Kush later, perfectly white ash a confirms the masterful technique of the cultivation team at Boulder Wellness Center.
Admittedly, I am usually the odd man out among my friends when it comes to the effects felt from the same strain of cannabis. Strains that the majority may refer to as a “heavy-indica,” meaning it leaves them couch-locked or sleepy, leave me relaxed yet energized or talkative and focused. When one considers that a strain’s effects are determined by the cannabinoid and terpene profiles rather than whether it’s categorized as sativa, indica, or hybrid I don’t seem like such an anomaly. A similar situation with B-Well Kush, I can understand why Emma at Boulder Wellness Center proclaimed,
“B-Well Kush is the strain that changed my mind about indicas.”
I experienced uplifting, thought-provoking cerebral relaxation combined with tingling sensations, heightened sensitivity to touch and a lightness in my arms, legs and neck with every use of B-Well Kush. This powerhouse may be beneficial for those seeking relief from stress, anxiety and chronic-pain as well as anyone looking to jump start their creative juices or enhance experiences in the bedroom.

One of the most unique exteriors of any cannabis dispensary in Denver, boasting several murals and an antique train caboose, The Herbal Cure made great use of an old lumberyard building. If you live in or have ever visited Denver, you’ve likely noticed The Herbal Cure’s large logo mural from Interstate 25. With great appreciation for the exterior, I decided to stop in to The Herbal Cure to grab a strain to review, and to find out if the interior is equally as spectacular.

Maintaining the lumberyard building feel, the interior of The Herbal Cure is cozy, inviting and decked top to bottom with wood panels. There was quite a long wait the day I visited, but luckily there was ample seating in the waiting area and plenty of reading material to keep me occupied.
Once called into the recreational purchasing door on the right, I was greeted by a friendly and knowledgeable member of the staff named TJ who reported that he’d worked there for two years. Even though TJ was “in the weeds” with a waiting room full of people and was the only one working on the recreational side, he treated me like a priority. (Thanks, TJ!)
When I asked him which strain a person must first consider when shopping at The Herbal Cure, he didn’t hesitate to suggest their OG Kush. Being from California, the state of origin for OG Kush, he said that The Herbal Cure’s “is comparable to the best California OG Kush.”
After sampling The Herbal Cure’s OG Kush, I agree with TJ.

OG Kush is the one of the best and most iconic strains of cannabis, for obvious reasons. Dark, dense, dank, and covered in fluffy orange hairs doused with trichomes, this strong and assertive flower is a stone cold stunner that leaves a great first impression.
Terpenes are the molecules responsible for producing the aroma of cannabis and other plants. When OG Kush is in the vicinity, your nose will know. Deep and sharp earthy (likely from beta-caryophyllene) scents of pine (pinene) emanate from this strain’s massive flowers, leaving the nostrils tingling with anticipation.
These OG Kush flowers are fresh and delicious, but also quite sticky. Breaking up the nugs was difficult by hand, and next time I’ll use a grinder. When inhaling OG Kush’s thick yet smooth smoke and vapor (I did both for this review), the back of my throat was coated with a sweet, herbal and piney aftertaste which stuck around for several minutes. Exhaling plumes of this strain will leave the entire room blanketed in a warm and earthy stench, reminiscent of forests and campfires.
This hybrid strain kicks off with a very euphoric and mellow high, followed by a boost in creativity mixed with a dash of extreme relaxation. At first it felt like my entire body was floating on a cloud and my mind was wandering joyfully, until the inevitable munchies kicked in. A well-stocked fridge is essential for getting the most enjoyment out of OG Kush, but this strain will put you in a great mood either way.
