Who knew legalizing marijuana would lead to more pizza sales? (sarcasm) According to TMZ, the 21 Denver area Papa John’s franchises Peyton Manning purchased in recent years are doing pretty well since January 1st. TMZ claims they called each of the locations and all of them reported much higher sales on the same day than in previous years.
“There’s some different laws out here in Colorado,” Manning stated. “Pizza business is pretty good out here, believe it or not, due to some recent law changes. So when you come to a different place, you’ve kind of got to learn everything that comes with it.”
To put that in numbers, in 2013 daily average gross sales were between $3,000-4,000 compared to $5,000-$6,000 in 2014, a ~50% increase. One store even reported a total sales increase of 25%. What’s strange is that non Peyton owned stores in the area are not seeing the same increases. In Denver it’s extremely easy to spot a Peyton owned location with all of the stores featuring cardboard cut outs of Peyton, his laser rocket arm, and Papa John himself.
A product of Peyton’s strategic acumen, it’s been reported that Peyton made the actual purchase of the franchises two weeks before legal marijuana went live in CO.
