Something unexpected showed up at the DNC convention yesterday…a 51 foot long joint! Well to be specific, this joint was filled with air and not with cannabis. This inflatable joint took a 3.5 mile long tour through the city of Philadelphia, from the City Hall to the Wells Fargo Center. Over two dozen people volunteered to carry this blazing symbol in the 90 degree heat.
Just imagine the view from the passing buildings as a joint, realistically painted to look as though it was smouldering at one end, as long as a semi truck trailer meandered down the street. Not only did these activists bring the issue of cannabis descheduling to the doorstep of the DNC, they brought it to many of the doorsteps in Philadelphia along the way.
The inflating of this monstrous joint was observed by many activists including some topless women wearing only cannabis leaf pasties. How’s that for drawing some attention?! They used their siren status to pass out educational materials to those who posed for selfies.

Mary Beth Degray was one of the topless participants who spoke to the press about her drive to push for change saying, “we’re here to let the DNC know that we want them to legalize cannabis federally, and we want it descheduled, not rescheduled.”
Degray hails from Vermont and it was her success in finding a working treatment for her Crohn’s disease and PTSD that drove her to spread the truth about how cannabis really has medical value. She explained the facts simply, “It’s a plant, and you don’t have to try it if you don’t want to, but everyone should have the right to have access as a first resort — not a last resort.”
Another activist, Brianna Morrell from Massachusetts, shared about how she finally found real relief from her irritable bowel syndrome and bipolar disorder through cannabis.
While these activists will surely go a long way in helping bring attention to this important fight, but the DNC has already shown their support for the medical cannabis movement. The DNC just recently officially threw their support behind medical cannabis, calling for the Government to downgrade cannabis from its current Schedule I status.
