franklin county kentucky sheriff drug deal competition

The Franklin County, Kentucky, Sheriff’s Office has found a new and innovative way to enlist the community in its fight to keep drug dealers off local streets.

A new post released by the sheriff’s office reads,

“Attention Drug Dealers: Is your Drug Dealing Competition Costing You Money? We offer a free service to help you eliminate your drug competition!”

The post includes a link to a form where community members may submit information about those they believe may be selling drugs.

According to the office’s Facebook page, the effort has already helped nab one couple allegedly involved in selling marijuana and crack-cocaine within county lines. As a result of the post, the office also received tips about drug deals taking place in Frankfort’s Charro Court area. The tips led law enforcement officials to conduct a search of a property in that vicinity, where they ultimately uncovered four pounds of cannabis, about a quarter-ounce of crack-cocaine and four guns.

Frankfort’s Terrill D. Jackson, 35, was arrested and charged with various drug and firearm crimes related to the search. Anita Waddell, 29, also of Frankfort, was arrested on drug and firearm charges as well thanks to tips received after the posting. Both individuals are currently behind bars in the Franklin County Regional Jail.

Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton said that since the office launched this new approach, tips have been pouring in about drug activity within the county.

“We’ve got our community engaged,”

he said.

“People are looking at it. They’re talking about it. And you know, if we can get a good tip and get a good drug dealer off the streets, all the more.”

Melton said the office is following up on a number of additional “credible” tips received as a result of the post, which has made waves and garnered publicity well beyond the confines of Franklin County. Even rapper, entrepreneur and author Ludacris has gotten in on the action by reposting the message on his personal Instagram account.
