Underestimating marijuana edibles almost always leads to an overwhelming experience that can only be cured by a long nap and a heavy meal, followed by a strong cup of coffee (or another nap). The latest celeb to succumb to the power of an innocent weed lollipop is Nick Jonas.
The Disney’s Camp Rock star recalled his experience with a potent edible on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. “I’ve never told this story – for good reason,” said the Jonas brother during the show. “And one of my friends’ wife said, ‘Hey, I’ve got this weed lollipop. Might want to give it a try.’ And I was like, sure – why not?”
Nick on Edibles
The incident happened two years ago, while celebrating the release of his musical single. He was also slated to host the Young Hollywood Awards the following night. After consuming the edible and going to sleep, the 23-year-old singer woke up feeling funny and slow. Edibles are known for incapacitating highs that can last up to six hours. Sometimes traces of the high can leak into the next day if consumed late into the night, which was exactly what happened to Jonas.
While preparing for event, Jonas made several weed-inspired decisions that were both questionable and inspiring to the fashion community. During the show, he entered the red carpet in a dark red suit (possibly hoping to blend in with his surroundings). In an attempt to cover his swollen eyes, the Kingdom actor also wore a pair of dark shades. Some fans noticed that Jonas was not himself that evening, but the media quickly dismissed any assumptions related to his behavior when he told people that he felt nervous about presenting onstage in front of a large crowd.
The peak of the edibles-driven night was when Jonas attempted to ad-lib a joke that was not in the script during his live presentation. The results were discreetly catastrophic, as the singer fumbled and failed to get the joke in successfully. Fortunately, the crowd went along with his awkwardness and did not pick up on his cannabis-fueled antics. To make sure no one noticed, Jonas asked his manager, “Do you think anybody knew?” Which then his manager replied, “Yes, they definitely did.”
Other Edibles-related Encounters
Prior to Jonas’ edibles revelation, Waka Flocka Flame had his own humbling experience with intense cannabis-laced products. The rapper thought he was overdosing on marijuana after consuming sweet edibles and smoking undisclosed amounts of weed. Waka called 911 for help, and paramedics checked his vital signs in the back of an ambulance. Since it’s not possible to overdose on cannabis (cannabinoid receptors are isolated away from the part of the brain that controls breathing, unlike opioid receptors), the rapper was eventually released back to his room, where he slept off his high.
