As cannabis consumption becomes more and more mainstream, it will be included in many more traditional events. One of the latest is golf tournaments. The Ricky Williams Laurel Rosebud Gold Invitational will happen on July 11, 2016 in Broomfield, Colorado. If you want to participate in a Colorado cannabis invitational golf tournament, you have exactly four days left to reserve your spot! While you may have toked up before heading out on the green before, this golf tournament is for a great cause – to gather funding for a push to reschedule cannabis so it can be researched and created into medicines to “further the common good and general welfare” of our communities.
Who is Ricky Williams?
Ricky Williams was born in San Diego, California, and a first round draft pick for the University of Texas where he was a two-time All-American and won the Heisman Trophy in 1998. In 2002, he was the NFL rushing yards leader, and his total career rushing yards were 10,009, with 66 rushing touchdowns. Williams was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in 1999 and was then traded to the Miami Dolphins in 2002. Williams has studied Ayurveda, an ancient Indian holistic medicine practice, and is a certified yoga instructor. He officially retired from the NFL on February 7, 2012, and has long been an advocate of medical cannabis. Williams suffers from social anxiety disorder, and contributed this personal story to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA). Williams stated, “I have a change to reach out to people and let them know what I’ve been through and how treatment has made my life so much better.” Cannabis was a part of his treatment at one time, and he fully supports and advocates for its consumption for patients who benefit from it. Williams is also planning to open a cannabis friendly gym, where members are allowed to consume cannabis during their workout.
