He made fans laugh with his “Cheech and Chong” antics and impressed them again with fancy footwork during a recent turn on Dancing with the Stars. Now, the famed comedian is using his notoriety to clue others in on his use of medical marijuana following a recent rectal cancer diagnosis.
“I’m using cannabis like crazy now, more so than ever before,”
said Chong, a longtime advocate for the decriminalization of marijuana.
“I’m in treatment now. I’ve been — just the case either way, either I get healed or I don’t. But either way, I’m going to make sure I get a little edge off or put up.”

This is Chong’s second stint with cancer. He previously battled prostate cancer in 2012 and was open about his use of medical marijuana, including hemp oil, during that time.
“I’ve got prostate cancer, and I’m treating it with hemp oil, with cannabis,”
Chong said during a 2012 TV interview.
“So [legalizing marijuana] means a lot more to me than just being able to smoke a joint without being arrested… I’m taking it as a medicine.”
His sentiments do not appear to have changed much since then. In a recent stop in Phoenix, Arizona, he told a local news affiliate that he relied on medical marijuana because it made him feel good, which is what medicine is supposed to do. He added that medical marijuana does so in a way that it does not harm other parts of the body while being used.
While Chong has maintained a somewhat regular presence in mainstream pop culture in recent years, he has not announced any new TV or film projects, and he has been spending time focusing on educating the public about marijuana decriminalization.
