Instagram has quickly become the major social media platform of choice for sharing cannabis. You can readily find 420 friendly model accounts filled of scantily clad women with hundreds of thousands of followers to low level ‘I’ll ship you weed’ profiles spamming any comment chain they can.
Recently Venture Beat called Instagram out in a piece titled “Instagram has a Drug Problem,” bringing to to light the amount illicit drug activity that happens on their app. Since that article has posted there have been a number of high profile cannabis centric accounts shut down or made private in an attempt to prevent their account from being closed. Coincidentally this has helped niche cannabis specific applications like MassRoots gain quick popularity and effected the outcome of this list. (You can’t embed pictures from accounts that are private.)
Illegal drug sales aside, Instagram has become a effective platform for legal cannabis businesses, concentration extraction labs specifically, to promote their businesses. Because the labs themselves do not have store fronts, there are limited marketing opportunities for them to reach the end consumer. Instagram allows them to easily show what’s under the hood, a process that is normally behind the scenes. Followers get detail on specific steps in the extraction process, from the garden to finished product. Below are some of our favorites at the Whaxy HQ.

Happy Thanksgiving! I’m grateful for living in a time that allows me to do what I love, for all the people that have dedicated themselves to making this possible, for the team supporting @golddropco, the amazing collectives we work with, and all the patients that support us. Thank you. #Danksgiving #GoldDropCo #710Love A photo posted by Gold Drop Extracts (@golddropco) on
