Last month, I celebrated 4/20 by purchasing a new vaporizer. While digging around for options online, I came across the Prem31r vaporizer by Blackout X.
The 2016 edition supports dry herb, wax and oil. This is the company’s third cannabis-focused device, and most recent release to date. It features three temperature settings: 375 F, 410 F and 445 F. The unit supports convection technology to activate the organic elements at specific thresholds, which works passively using indirect heat.
Originally priced at $134.95, I got 20 percent off the order using a MassRoots promo code (and it arrived early- plus points for that). The unit came in a well-padded, rectangular box that prevents the pieces from getting damaged during shipping. The 3-in-1 vaporizer kit includes the following components:
- PREM31R Uni-body Vaporizer
- Rubberized Mouthpiece w/ Removable Filter Screen
- Built-in 2600 mAh Battery
- Wax and Oil Attachment
- Packing Tool
- Cleaning Brush
- Instruction Manual
- Micro USB Charging Cable
The vaporizer boasts a sleek, carbon fiber body that looks and feels like a premium device. Picking it up for the first time, one of the things I immediately noticed was the weight of the pen- its heaviness made it feel really sturdy. There weren’t any loose parts, and with only one button to work with I knew that I didn’t have to tinker with the manual too much to get started.
Note: Blackout X recommends charging the device for six hours before using it for the first time.
Using the Vaporizer
Like most vaporizers, it’s crucial not to over-pack the chamber with dry herb. Luckily, the Prem31r supports a large chamber that holds 0.5-0.7 grams. The chamber dips slightly into the pen to prevent spillage (perfect for people with big fingers). The mouthpiece serves as the cover for the chamber.
Using the device requires a lot of clicking: clicking the “X” three times turns it on to the first temperature setting (you’ll know it’s on when the button turns green), holding the “X” for a few seconds initiates the second temperature setting (turning the button yellow), and another round of pressing gets you to the highest temperature setting (turning the button red). The vaporizer turns off automatically after 3.5 minutes, but if you want to turn it off manually, simply click the “X” three times.
The first time I used the Prem31r, I was with three other people, and one load got us all high (using dry herb only). For optimal results, I had to draw in the smoke slowly. Drawing in the smoke too hard could clog up the filter in the mouthpiece. If that does happen, you can use the cleaning brush to get rid of the debris. The manual mentioned that it can run a total of 30 cycles or 105 minutes per charge, but honestly it seemed like it could handle a lot more.
Overall, the Prem31r is one of the most reliable vaporizers available in the market today. Every piece is designed to enhance one’s vaping experience, making it ideal for both novice and veteran smokers. For more information about the vaporizer, check out the Blackout X website.
