Step aside Snoop and Chong cause there’s a new gal in the ganjapreneur game. The latest celebrity to launch her own cannabis line is none other than Whoopi Goldberg.
Geared towards women and their menstrual cycles, Golberg’s “Whoopi & Maya” California-based brand launched today. The goal of these products, clearly marketed towards women, is to alleviate symptoms derived from periods like cramps and nagging pain.
Additionally, the company isn’t just offering a few items, but instead appears to be going all in. The breadth of the company’s offerings is impressive and includes products like an Epson Salt-based Bath “SOAK”, a Cacao based edible “SAVOR”, an herb and oil based “RUB”, and an alcohol-based “RELAX” tincture.
The company is offering both medicinal CBD and THC offerings and will be available in dispensaries all over California. While reviews and availability about Whoopi’s products are impending, the first look at the products, via USA Today, is enticing:
Modern, chic, and subtle, this is the type of marketing that wins over female consumers. In fact, those products look exactly like the kind of products you find in a Whole Foods or Sprouts.
While it’s too early to speculate on Whoopi’s green prospects, the initial reveal looks promising. Her partner, Maya Elisabeth of Om Edibles, has been in the California industry since 2008 and has received seven Cannabis Cup awards in her career.
Obviously, it also doesn’t hurt that Whoopi is one of the most universally beloved, admired, and respected women in the world. A public champion of cannabis for years and on The View, Whoopi’s endeavor clearly comes from the heart and appears equal parts capitalism and sentiment: a woman like Whoopi does not do this just to chase dollar signs. That ethos coupled with an appealing brand could make this a major player in California’s massive market.
However, “Whoopi & Maya” won’t be without resistance or company. Foria offers similar products and is an established brand that just released cannabis suppositories. Elsewhere, female celebrities like Roseanne Barr (a dispensary in Santa Ana) and Melissa Ethridge (an infused wine) have announced their planned cannabis endeavors.
But none of them stack up in grandeur or stature to the one and only Whoopi.
